NASA & VARDA PARTNER TO ADVANCE THE COMPANY’S COMMERCIAL EARTH RE-ENTRY LOGISTICS SYSTEM
Move Comes As Varda Continues To Build Upon its Space Manufacturing & Reentry Technologies
EL SEGUNDO, CA— August 5th, 2022 Today, Varda Space Industries, Inc., the world's first in-space manufacturing and hypersonic Earth re-entry logistics company, announced the signing of two Space Act Agreements (SAAs) with NASA to jointly develop enhanced re-entry capabilities for use in commercial and governmental efforts. The move comes as the company has grown to 60+ people and expanded to a 61,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility in preparation for its launch of the world’s first in-space commercial manufacturing satellite in 2023 on SpaceX’s Transporter 8 mission.
Varda signed two SAAs with NASA: one with the Ames Research Center and the other with the Langley Research Center. Both support NASA’s efforts to develop and transfer revolutionary technologies to private companies to enable exploration capabilities for NASA and the United States. The three parties will work together to develop both Varda’s Earth re-entry vehicle and systems as well as new, cutting-edge thermal protection systems and heatshield technology for use in large-scale commercial re-entry operations.
“Varda is proud to partner with NASA to help strengthen our re-entry capabilities,” said William Bruey, CEO of Varda. “Our Earth re-entry vehicles, which we want conducting daily return trips to Earth from our in-space manufacturing satellites, establish a robust platform for our commercial needs while also helping NASA expedite development of innovative new thermal protection systems.”
